Team India’s vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane believes India’s brilliant effort with the ball in South Africa will be a big boost to team’s confidence ahead of their gruelling five-Test tour of England.
Although India went down in the Test series against South Africa, they put up an inspiring show. Further, they came back from 2-0 to win the Johannesburg Test.
The Indian fast bowlers did a brilliant job picking up 60 wickets in three Test matches. The likes of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammad Shami, and Jasprit Bumrah was brilliant throughout the tour.
Confident of winning in England:
Rahane admitted that Team India is confident of winning anywhere in the world. Talking about the England series, he feels preparations will be key to success.
“Definitely, we all do believe that we have the team that can do well in South Africa, Australia, New Zealand and England. It is important to start well. The preparations part will be really important as it will provide us with the momentum,” Rahane said at India Today Conclave.
Further, Rahane credited the bowling unit for their stupendous show in South Africa.
“Taking 60 wickets in South Africa was unbelievable. The way our fast bowlers and spinners bowled, we all believe that we can do well,” Rahane added.
Meanwhile, Rahane was dropped from the first two Test matches but returned in Johannesburg to win the match for the team.
Happy to have delivered:
Rahane admitted that he was happy to deliver when his team needed the most. Further, he mentioned that he was ready for the challenge and wanted to contribute.
“When we go abroad, the teams come hard at us. There is challenge for an individual to do well overseas but we had discussed that from now on, wherever we will go, we will think and play like it’s our home turf and that’s what we were doing in South Africa,” Rahane said.
“Yes Johannesburg wicket was slightly dangerous but for me, it was an opportunity to become a hero. I did not play the first two Test matches and I was motivated, I was disciplined and really working hard on my batting, when I got to know that I was playing this (Johannesburg) Test match, and that is what I did and I am happy to contribute to the success,” Rahane concluded.
