Former England talisman opener Alastair Cook has backed the heavy batting side to go on and lift the ICC World Cup 2019 trophy. England is in fine form and Cook believes his side can go all the way in the ODI showpiece. The English side has played fearless cricket in the last three years as they have played at the top of their game.

England was able to turn the tables after having a disastrous 2015 World Cup. Since then they have been relentless in the 50-overs format. Meanwhile, Cook believes England has all the bases covered in the white ball format.

England is favorites.

England has a potent bench strength which can help them in lifting their maiden World Cup title. Cook feels Alex Hales can deliver the goods.

Cook told Sky Sports News, “They’re going to take the same batting line-up, with Hales as the replacement – and then it’s a case of who’s out of form.

“Hales is a brilliant one-day player and he can’t get in this side at the moment but, if there’s an injury or someone’s out of form, for him to step up shows the strength in depth of this squad.

Cook said England Test captain Joe Root is going to be the fulcrum of the batting line-up. Root has all the experience under his belt and he is going to hold the key for the English side. The talisman right-hander can hold one end and other combative batsmen can bat around him.

“It’s such an exciting batting line-up, held together by Joe Root – the glue, Mr Consistent – coming in at No 3 and all the fireworks happen around him.

Any one of the top eight can score that match-winning hundred off 70 or 80 balls, which changes the game, and that’s why it’s such an exciting team to watch.

England has a potent side.

“With Roy at the top of the order and Jonny Bairstow and Hales waiting, it’s an exciting and dangerous batting line-up.

“You could pretty much name the squad now and you could never have said that before in previous World Cups. Everyone’s very clear on their roles in the side – they seem to have pretty much every base covered.”

England has eleven One Day Internationals before the World Cup and they would like to hit the ground running. They will lock horns with the Windies in five ODI matches. Furthermore, they would be playing in their own conditions.

England has the in-form players in their ranks and they can go on to win the World Cup. Eoin Morgan has led the team with aplomb and he would like to continue his good show.

England is a confident unit and they would aim to deliver the goods in the upcoming ODI carnival. The English side has made it to the finals of the World Cup on three occasions and they are the red-hot favorites to win the big ticket tournament.
