The Supreme Court of India, headed by Chief Justice, Dipak Misra, ordered BCCI to allow Bihar to take part in the Ranji Trophy and other tournaments in senior leagues.

Court, in its order, said that the board could continue with the legal procedure but until then, they have to allow Bihar to play Ranji Trophy.

Before the start of the season 2017/18, BCCI had to change its junior domestic calendar when the Committee of Administrators paved the way for North East states and Bihar in the junior cricket. Though the decision came under criticism due to the results which came out, as in one of the matches, the whole team got out on two while on the other hand, a total of 136 wides were bowled.

This year, no changes are expected in the limited overs fixtures of senior cricket and Bihar is only expected to make a comeback in the next season.

Should Bihar make a comeback in next season, it would become the 29th affiliated unit with BCCI. The state association was banned in the year 2000 after the formation of Jharkhand.

MS Dhoni played for Bihar in junior cricket and one of the iconic moments came when the team played final of Cooch Behar Trophy in 1999, which is remembered for innings of 358 by Yuvraj Singh. It is to be noted that Dhoni now plays for Jharkhand, as Ranchi – his hometown – is the capital of Jharkhand.

Bihar, just like Chhattisgarh, will have to start from 0 in the senior’s League. Though it will have an option to rope in professionals, as Chhattisgarh did by roping in Mohammad Kaif, who still plays for the state.
