Well, the game of cricket has seen yet another rare record being broken by the contemporary player. In one of those staggering records, the 28-year-old Sri Lankan batsman Angelo Perera knocked two double centuries in a single first-class game. It was only the second time to ever register in the game.

Back then, in 1938, Kent batsman Arthur Fagg, then 23, struck 244 and 202 not out against Essex. Now, after almost 80 years, a Sri Lankan batsman broke the record by smashing 201 off 203 balls in the first innings of NCC’s Super Eights fixture against Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC).

Later, he followed it up by 231 off 268 balls in the second innings, which saw the four-day game eventually resulted out into a draw. It was a stupendous knock from the youngster, as it came against one of the best bowling attacks in the country.

The opposition bowling consists of Dhammika Prasad and Sachitra Senanayake, who got a decent international experience under their belt. However, the pitch has helped a bit with the track being so flat for the batsman to garner runs.

Angelo Perera made his ODI debut in 2013:

There would be no time better than this for the youngster to knock it out. With Sri Lanka searching for the talent, they might give a call-up for the youngster to give him his maiden Test cap. With ICC World Cup 2019 around the corner, a couple of good domestic knocks would do a world of good for him.

Digging into his career, so far, Angelo Perera has played 4 ODIs and 2 T20Is for Sri Lanka. He made his ODI debut against South Africa in Pallekele in 2013. But, unfortunately, couldn’t last long as he last played against Australia in 2016.

In T20I games, he represented Sri Lanka in a couple of games against Bangladesh. In first-class cricket, Perera has played 97 matches in which he has scored 6941 runs including 18 centuries and 33 fifties.
