Australia off-spinner Nathan Lyon paid tribute to legendary Shane Warne ahead of Day 2 of the ongoing first Test of the Ashes 2023 at Edgbaston. He revealed that it was because of him that he started bowling spin and hopefully, he can fly the flag for the spinners in his memory.
Australian spin wizard Shane Warne passed away in March last year. The former leg-spinner suffered a heart attack in his villa in Thailand at the age of 52. He was found unresponsive in his room and his demise shook every cricket lover.

Nathan Lyon said that Shane Warne is missed incredibly but they know that he’s looking at them from upstairs and hopefully, they can make him proud. Speaking to Sky Sports, he said:

“He is missed incredibly, not just as an Australian lover of cricket but all around the world. You look at Warnie, what he has done for me, he is the reason why I am bowling spin.
“Very sad, even today he is not here with us but hopefully, we can do him proud upstairs there, I know he there looking down on us. He is the reason why I started bowling spin so hopefully I can fly the flag for the spinners in his memory.”
Nathan Lyon is currently among the best Test spinners going in World cricket. The off-spinner has taken 491 wickets in 121 matches and is the third-highest wicket-taker for Australia in Tests only behind Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath.
