Over the years, the Test series between England and Australia always had high tempers. Players of both sides have been going in each other’s heads and leaving no stone unturned to sledge the opposition. During the last Ashes in England, James Anderson and Steve Smith were engaged in a verbal spat and it has been the same story in previous series as well.

Pat Cummins although feels that he’d be surprised if things got heated up this around like the earlier times. He highlighted that this Australian, who is traditionally known to be aggressive side, is pretty chilled out.

Speaking to reporters, he said: “Our team is pretty chilled out there. We are quite a confident bunch but not overly loud or in your face. I think you have seen our personality reflected out on the field. I am sure there is going to be emotion at times, but I would be surprised if that bubbled over, like maybe it has in the past.”

Ashes 2023: I am sure we will be presented with a lot of different problems throughout this series – Pat Cummins

Pat Cummins, who is pumped for the series, admitted that they will be challenged with a lot of things but for them, conditions will be less foreign as compared to what they had in India.

“We are pumped that it’s here. As soon as one series finishes, you are looking forward to the next one. This one, in particular, seems like it has a bit more on it. The whole cricketing world stops for a month to put their attention on it.

“I am sure we will be presented with a lot of different problems throughout this series. There will be surprises like there always are. But there are less unknowns than other tours – India’s spinning wickets are probably more foreign than playing here.”

Australia is yet to win a series in England in 2001. It’ll be a great opportunity for Pat Cummins to become only the second Aussie captain to win Ashes in the UK after Steve Waugh.
