Australian skipper Pat Cummins admitted that he had flashbacks of the Leeds Test from 2019 while he was batting in the last session during the recently concluded first session of the Ashes 2023 at Edgbaston in Birmingham. He said that most of their players were part of the Headingley Test last time and they are quite satisfied with the win they bagged.

The first Test of the Ashes 2023 was a cliffhanger that saw both teams going neck to neck with each other. In the game that went down the wire, Australia emerged out to be victorious as they bagged the game by just 2 wickets and go 1-0 up in the series.

Pat Cummins with the bat was the wrecker in chief for his team as he batted exceptionally well and scored unbeaten 44 runs to take his side home along with Nathan Lyon, who scored unbeaten 16 runs, took his side home just when it seemed that they would falter.

After the win, Australia skipper Pat Cummins was asked about getting the flashbacks from Headingley Test. He admitted that he thought about that but this time they are satisfied to end up on the right side this time. Speaking to reporters, he said:

“Yeah, I’d be lying if I said it didn’t (think about Headingley). We’ve been on the other side of it last series … it’s one of those ones when you’re on the other side of it, really hurts (and) feels like one that got away.

“A lot of those guys were there at Headingley. So to feel like we clinched one that was out of our grasp there for a little while is pretty satisfying.”

Talking about the Headingley Test of 2019, England clinched the game against Australia by just one wicket. Ben Stokes slammed a magnificent unbeaten 135 runs to take his side home. The game had its moments with Nathan Lyon missing the runout, and the lbw decision going against Australia. But eventually, England managed a win.

While chasing the target of 273 runs, Australia found themselves in deep trouble as they were left tottering at 227/3. It seemed that England would win. But Pat Cummins along with Lyon took the charge and won the game.

While talking about lower-order batting, Pat Cummins said that their bowlers practice batting as well and put a lot of hard work. He explained:

“It’s something we all practice. Nath (Lyon) puts a lot of time into it when he’s back home as well; he puts a lot of time into his batting, even the adjustment from the first innings, when we got a couple of bumpers and everyone went out there with a clear plan,” he concluded.

The second Test of the Ashes 2023 is slated to take place at Lord’s in London. The game is scheduled to be taken place on 28th June.
