The ICC Test Championship started in a bid to revive and popularise the longest format of the game. With The Ashes 2019, commenced a two-year-long tournament, and the start didn’t disappoint the lovers of the gentlemen’s game. The opening Ashes 2019 Test lived up to the hype and expectations as Australia demolished England to register a 251-run win. Even in the second Test, they showed a similar intensity, which certainly impressed Sourav Ganguly.

In a rain-curtailed match at Lord’s, England pushed Australia to a corner, but the visitors managed to hang on to a draw in a pulsating final day. Ben Stokes slammed a century and Jofra Archer took 3 wickets to reduce Australia to 154 for 6 when the match concluded. All the action in the Ashes would have impressed the former Indian skipper.

Rest of the world should raise standards – Sourav Ganguly

Speaking of the incredible standards displayed by both teams for Ashes Trophy, Sourav Ganguly took to  Twitter quoting that Ashes has kept Test cricket alive. And also, asked the other Test-playing nations to raise their standards when it comes to the longest and most prestigious form of the game.

”The” Ashes “ series have kept test cricket alive …. upto rest of the world to raise their standards,” Sourav Ganguly wrote.

The second Ashes 2019 Test ended in a draw but the jam-packed crowd witnessed an enthralling contest between the two sides. Australia had to scratch through thin air to save the Test on the final day in what was a rain-hit contest between the two arch-rivals.

With a 1-0 lead for the visitors, Australia and England will now lock horns in the third Test beginning Thursday at Headingley, Leeds. The in-form player Steve Smith had to sit out Sunday’s play with a concussion suffered when hit by a bouncer from Test debutant Archer during his 92 on Saturday. It would be interesting to see whether he would be fit for the third Test or not.
