England skipper Joe Root during the ongoing Ashes 2017-18 trophy revealed they have a good chance to make it count in the third Test of the five-match series which will be beginning from December 14 in Perth.

“It’s a real chance to flip the dynamics of this series on its head,” Root was quoted as saying by Cricket Australia ahead of the crunch game for visitors on Thursday.

With hosts, Australia-led by Steven Smith already leading the traditional Magellan Ashes series by 2-0, the England leader and top-order batsman Root remarked it would be great to open the account and eventually leave the series far open for the riveting contest.

“If we do come away 2-1 from this game, it does blow the series wide open,” Root maintained.

While relying on his optimistic approach Root is further hopeful that England could spring a surprise or so in the impending Test, as Australia would be aiming to seal the Urn.

“The real thing to hit home here is it’s an opportunity to create history,” Root asserted.

Shedding the light on the game plan, Root reiterated they are aiming to give best on the field which eventually plays an imperative role while playing the five-day fixture.

“It is about getting that right on the field. If they can do that, we give the side a chance to go on and make a big score or take a cluster of wickets and control the session and hopefully the game,” Root added.

However, reflecting on the 2013-14 team when England was routed as 5-0 on Australia, Root expressed an utter surprise by saying we didn’t expect that to happen when the-then Alastair Cook-led side was more balanced.

“They were a little more shell-shocked at how things turned out because we had a very settled team with a lot of experience fresh from a year when we hadn’t lost a game,” Root further added.

It is pertinent to mention that the visitors have performed decently in both the Tests, but subsequently failed to capitalize during the crucial moments of the game before going down with the scoreline of 0-2.

With England captain looking forward to instill confidence among his teammate, the Three Lions are further supposed to play according to their strength.

“Guys have a real clear idea of where they want to go and how they look to play. I’m not sure that was the same last time,” Root maintained.

Regarding the team performance, Root further stated they have a decent line-up which has the potential to write the script in a significant manner.

“I think we are in a much better place this time around,” Root concluded.

Before concluding, Root said England have had the players who are fresh to the Test format.
