Team India presented a clinical effort to rout Pakistan out by eight wickets in match 5 of the Asia Cup Group A encounter at the Dubai International Stadium on September 19 (Wednesday).

Meanwhile, unchanged Pakistan didn’t get going after opting to bat first. Both the front-line pacers kept it tight by bowling at the bodies of openers Fakhar Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq. As a result of that, Imam played an uncharacteristic get-out-of-jail slog to nick it to MS Dhoni in the third over. A couple of overs later, Zaman pulled a skiddy shortish ball from Bhuvneshwar to the safe hands of  Yuzvendra Chahal at midwicket.

Pakistan’s two best bets, Shoaib Malik and Babar Azam, didn’t disappoint as they added 82 runs for the third wicket. The tide had started to turn, with Pakistan scoring 35 runs from overs 11-15. But just when Pakistan looked good, Kuldeep Yadav produced a beautiful wrong ‘un to castle Babar Azam on 47.
Over the course of the next 25 runs, Pakistan lost their ground. Skipper Sarfraz Ahmed slogged it wide of long on where Manish Pandey, substituting for Hardik. Malik too finally ran out of luck with Ambati Rayudu breaking the stumps down from point to send him back for 43.

There was hardly a moment when Jadhav wasn’t involved and next up were his two wickets to remove Asif Ali and Shadab Khan.

There was a brief period of resilience when Faheem Ashraf and Mohammad Amir added some defiant runs (37), however, once Bumrah was recalled, Ashraf’s time was up. The front-line seamers teamed up again to pick the final two wickets.

Meanwhile, 163 shouldn’t bother India much as the openers got off to a flier. They dominated the world-class Pakistan bowling attack as they reached the 50-run mark within nine overs. Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan played shots all over the park to close in on the target.

Rohit Sharma was the aggressor of the two as he brought his fifty in just 37 balls. However, he departed soon after reaching his half-century off a clinical googly from Shadab Khan. Dhawan followed soon to Ashraf, four short of his half-century as Pakistan reduced India to 104 for two.

However, Dinesh Karthik and Ambati Rayudu saw it off with any further damage. They added 60 runs for the third wicket to beat the Green Caps by eight wickets quite convincingly.
