Asia Cup 2018: MS Dhoni Surpasses Virender Sehwag In Unique List During Final

Indian cricketer MS Dhoni managed to surpass former Indian cricketer, Virender Sehwag on September 28 at the Dubai International Stadium in Asia Cup 2018 final against Bangladesh.

MS Dhoni goes past Sehwag

However, MS Dhoni played a 36-run knock and overhauled Virender Sehwag on the list of Indian cricketers with most ODI runs against Bangladesh. MS is now standing at the fourth position on the list among the Indian batsmen.

Moreover, MS Dhoni was just six runs short of overtaking the former Indian opener. He already scored 498 runs against the Tigers throughout his ODI careers. Dhoni needed six runs in the final to surpass Virender Sehwag. The 39-year-old Sehwag took 12 ODIs to score 503 runs against Bangladesh. Meanwhile, Dhoni’s appearance in the final is the most number of presence against the Tigers in ODIs.

However, MS Dhoni scored a gritty 36 runs under pressure. He overtook Sehwag to stand sixth on the all-time list. Dhoni has gained 534 runs from 20 matches. However, Virat Kohli is leading the board, who played 11 games against Bangladesh. He scored 654 runs averaging 81.75 against the Bangla Tigers.

Furthermore, Dhoni was not amongst the highest scorer in Asia Cup 2018 but had managed to mark up a few records. He was named as the captain of India in the game against Afghanistan. Rohit Sharma got rested along with a few other key players for the thrilling final. Also, MS Dhoni hence led India for the 200th time as captain.

In addition to that, Dhoni did some brilliant stumping to remove Mashrafe Mortaza and Liton Das in the final as well. He became the first Asian wicket-keeper who managed to amass 800 dismissals in international cricket. Dhoni also achieved the milestone to come in the third position overall.

Moreover, Dhoni is also the only captain in the history of cricket to win three ICC trophies – World T20 in 2007, ICC World Cup 2011 and ICC Champions Trophy 2013.
