Team India’s opener, KL Rahul was finally part of the playing XI in the Asia Cup 2018, as he made the cut in the absence of two premier openers, Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma for the final Super four match against Afghanistan. He scored a magnificent 60 off 72 deliveries which included seven fours and a six.

Rahul also shared a big stand with his opening partner Ambati Rayudu who chipped in with a quickfire 57 off 49 deliveries. Despite their efforts, it was Afghanistan who held onto their nerves and held India to a tie. It was a great comeback by the Afghanistan bowlers towards the death overs, and the 2nd string Indian side was just not up to the mark in the final few overs.
With the wicket of Ravindra Jadeja in the final over off Rashid Khan, the Afghan players jumped towards each other after securing the thrilling tie. However, a lot of credit goes to Afghanistan for putting up an inspired show against a top-ranked side like India.
KL Rahul says the India-Afghanistan game will be remembered for a long time
“A Game that will be remembered for a long time. Great to be out there again and contributing,” KL Rahul wrote on his Instagram handle.
However, after batting first, Afghanistan posted a pretty competitive score of 252 on the board. It was mostly possible due to the breathtaking knock of opening batsman Mohammad Shahzad, who smashed the Indian bowlers all around the Dubai International Stadium. Hs knock of 124 came in 116 deliveries and studded with 11 fours and seven hits over the fence.

Mohammad Nabi also chipped in with a vital knock which eventually propelled Afghanistan to 252. Despite the great start provided by the Indian openers, they faltered in the middle overs, as the match finally, ended in a tie in the Asia Cup 2018.
