Punjab Kings (PBKS) batter Jitesh Sharma shared his excitement about sharing the stage with other Indian athletes in the upcoming Asian Games 2023. He said that he wants to meet his idol Neeraj Chopra and talk with him about his mentality.

Jitesh Sharma was among the youngsters who received their maiden call-up for the Indian team in the squad for the Asian Games 2023, which will be played in China from 23rd September to 8th October. For the first time, Indian Men’s team will take part in the competition.

Jitesh Sharma, who has been one of the most exciting batters in the last two IPL seasons, was expected to be part of the team for the West Indies T20s but unfortunately, his name didn’t pop up. However, destiny had something different written for him as he made it into the team for the Continental tournament.

Speaking to Indian Express, he explained: “I want to meet Neeraj Chopra. He is an idol. He has won an Olympic gold, I don’t think anything can beat that. I want to meet him and will try to talk about his mentality.Playing individual sports is a difficult task. In cricket, you are always surrounded by ten people; you always get that moral support. But in an individual sport, you are on your own out there.”

Asian Games: “It will be a very good experience to be in the games village with other athletes” – Jitesh Sharma

Jitesh Sharma further highlighted it’ll be a great opportunity for him to learn the routines of other athletes because as a cricketer they don’t get to share the stage with other sportspeople.

“It will be a very good experience to be in the games village with other athletes, have breakfast with them, and train with them in the gym. Understanding their routine and how they got into their business. In cricket tournaments, you don’t get to live those experiences. It will be a life-changing experience for me,” he explained.

It remains to be seen if Jitesh Sharma makes his debut for the Indian team in the Asian games or before that. The batter might see himself in the squad for Ireland.
