Australia banked on Chris Lynn and Glenn Maxwell after a dominant bowling display, as they cruise to a seven-wicket victory over New Zealand in the Gillette T20I Tri-series opener.

Lynn (44) and Maxwell (40*) chased down the 95 that was Australia’s revised target under the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern system following a rain delay at the innings break. Lynn was caught in the deep, with just eight runs left, as Maxwell took the onus to finish the game.

Earlier, New Zealand posted 117 for the loss of nine wickets with four wickets to Andrew Tye and three wickets for the debutant Bill Stanlake. Warner opted to bowl, as Stanlake reaped immediate dividends in the innings’ second over. His first ball saw Colin Munro top edge one to Alex Carey.

However, Stanlake with his second delivery proved why is currently the hottest prospect in Australia, as he removed Martin Guptill. The ball pitched in line and straightened to beat the edge of Martin Guptill’s bat and knock the top of off stump.

The tall and lanky pacer from Adelaide Strikers finished his quota with three for 15. Kane Richardson (0 for 28) and Stanlake registered 18 dots, as they restricted New Zeland to 3-29 in the powerplay. It was then Andrew Tye’s turn, who once again proved his worth with a four-wicket haul.

Colin de Grandhomme showed his muscle, as he finished unbeaten on 34 to take New Zealand over the 100-run mark.

It was the third consecutive defeat for New Zealand since they surrendered the World No.1 ranking by losing a three-game series with Pakistan 2-1 at home last month.
