After a fine time, the stylish southpaw David Warner and the ex-skipper Steve Smith set to play for the national team in the shortest format of the game. It has been almost 1 and a half years of time for the duo to play for Australia in the T20I format. Now, they earned a call-up, as Cricket Australia announced squad for the series against Sri Lanka.

One of the shocking news from the squad announcement is the exclusion of Marcus Stoinis. The stylish all-rounder recently smashed a brilliant century in the domestic cricket, however, the board didn’t consider it. Stoinis was able to manage just 87 runs in the 50-over World Cup in the UK and struggled with injuries.

Other than David Warner and Steve Smith, it was pretty the same as their previous T20I squad. Aaron Finch will be leading the side while the likes of Glenn Maxwell, Ben McDermott, Ashton Turner retained their place. In all-rounder quota, Ashton Agar and Pat Cummins find a place while Alex Carey will be doing the wicket-keeper duty.

We are delighted to welcome Steve Smith And David Warner – Hohns

Speaking of the squad, the Australian selector Trevor Hohns quoted that they have announced the list by keeping the upcoming ICC T20I World Cup 2020 in their mind. He also clarified that the players were divided into role specifics rather than being a one mix. Trevor believes that it helps them to get a perfect composition for the team.

“It is almost a year to the day until Australia hosts the men’s Twenty20 World Cup and we have selected this squad with that in mind. We have looked to put a squad together that we think can take us through to that tournament,” cricket.com.au quoted national selector Trevor Hohns as saying in a statement.

“The squad we have selected is quite role-specific and we believe it gives us the flexibility to thrive in all match conditions. We’re delighted to welcome Smith and Warner back … Steve is a world-class batsman in all formats while Warner is Australia’s highest ever T20I runs-scorer.”

The fast-bowling department has got the lanky Billy Stanlake, Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, Andrew Tye, and Kane Richardson. Adam Zampa is the lonely spinner to make into the chart.

Australia will face Sri Lanka in the three T20Is scheduled for October 27, 30 and November 1 in Adelaide, Brisbane, and Melbourne respectively. The 14-man squad captained by Aaron Finch will travel to Adelaide on October 24th.
