After a poor Ashes series, England has made a sensational comeback in the limited overs version and courtesy a great all-round performance, England took an unassailable 3-0 lead in the 5 match series. It was convincing cricket from England which saw them muster a 16 runs victory. Wicket-keeper batsman Jos Buttler scored a sensational century off a mere 83 balls which propelled England to a score of 302/6 at the end of their allotted 50 overs.

Aussie skipper Steve Smith won the toss and put the hosts into bat. Openers Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow began briskly. The duo shared a 38 runs partnership and Roy, in particular, struck four boundaries while he struck a couple. Just when England was looking to take the game away from the opposition, Pat Cummins provided England with the maiden breakthrough while the next wicket of Alex Hales fell pretty cheaply of the bowling of Marcus Stoinis.

Buttler struck six fours and four gigantic sixes and propelled England to a score of over 300 runs. The 2nd highest run scorer for England was Chris Woakes who struck a terrific half-century and was dismissed on 53 of 36 deliveries which included 5 fours and a couple of sixes. Josh Hazlewood was the pick of the England bowlers bagging a couple of wickets by giving away 58 runs.

In reply, Australia lost their opening wicket in the form of David Warner pretty cheaply, but the likes of Aaron Finch and skipper Steve Smith are there to give you company. All-rounders Mitchell Marsh and Marcus Stoinis gave a valiant effort in chasing the total down. Both played some tremendous shots and got Australia within touching distance of the target.

While Marsh struck four boundaries during his knock of 55, Stonis also smashed three fours and a couple of maximums. However tight bowling towards the end of the innings didn’t allow Australia to give a shot at the total. Australia eventually played out the 50 overs and ended up scoring 286/6 in their allotted 50 overs thus surrendering a 16 runs victory to the visitors.
