Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin became the second player to bag 179 wickets of the left-handed batsmen. Ashwin, who has hogged the limelight since his debut, has been a nightmare for the left-handers.

Meanwhile, Ravichandran Ashwin picked up three wickets to his name in the first innings of the first Test match against Australia at Adelaide. India after winning the toss elected to bat first; however, their performance was not up to the mark with the bat. No one could score even a half-century apart from Cheteshwar Pujara, who was the lone warrior for India.

Pujara amassed 123 runs from 246 deliveries which helped India to post 250 runs in the first essay. Aussies failed to start their batting in a good note as they lost Aaron Finch in the very first over of the innings. The tall and lanky pacer Ishant Sharma opened the account while Ravichandran Ashwin joined him later. Ashwin was the pick of the bowlers who bagged three wickets to his name.

The 32-year-old rattled the top order picking up the wickets of Marcus Harris, Usman Khawaja, and Shaun Marsh. Interestingly, he bagged all the wickets of left-handers and claimed his name as the second highest bowler to dismiss left-handers after Muttiah Muralitharan. The former legendary spinner from Sri Lanka had scalped 191 wickets against left-handers in the longer format of the game.

Meanwhile, Ravichandran Ashwin now has 179 wickets against the southpaws and will try to surpass the great spinner Muralitharan.

At the end of day two of the ongoing Test series, Australia are still trailing by 59 runs. They only managed to score 191 runs with three wickets still in hand. Aussies will start their day three with Travis Head who was batting at 61 alongside Mitchell Starc, who is at 8.
