Former Australia fast bowler Glenn McGrath congratulated Virat Kohli-led Indian National Cricket team after their historic series win in Australian soil. As a result, India retained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy beating the Aussies by 2-1.
Meanwhile, the visitors were dominant throughout the series winning the Adelaide and the Boxing Day Test. The bowlers did a fantastic well-supported by the batters. Coming to the final Test at the Sydney with a 21 lead, India had to secure a draw to reach the landmark. However, they started the match on a high after opting to bat first on flat deck. Cheteshwar Pujara and Rishabh Pant scored centuries well supported by others as India declared at 622 for seven. They once again continued their superb job with the ball as Kuldeep Yadav stepped up to pick five wickets in his very first Test on Australian soil. Virat Kohli enforced a follow-on on the host after bowling them out for 300 in the first innings. However, the umpires had to call off the fourth day’s play early due to bad light and it never resumed since then.
The Indian cricketers erupted in joy once the umpires announced that the match has been called off. The jubilant cricketers danced in joy as many described this as the best Indian Test team ever.
Glenn McGrath congratulates India
Meanwhile, every year, Australia’s New Year Test is the Pink Test with the third day of the match named Jane McGrath day in honour of Glenn McGrath’s late wife. It is an initiative to improve awareness regarding breast cancer all over Australia and the world. As a token of respect, Virat Kohli sported pink gloves and grip while he came out to bat on day one of the Test. Before the start of the third day’s play, the Indian and the Australian cricket team presented McGrath with their pink caps. The foundation will auction the caps to raise money for the campaign.
“Congratulations to @imVkohli & his Indian Team on winning their first ever series in Australia. They outplayed @CAComms in all departments. Very well deserved.
