Australia vs India 2018-19: Twitter Reacts as Rishabh Pant Scores a Daddy Hundred
Updated - 04 Jan 2019, 01:14 PM
Indian National Cricket team player Rishabh Pant became the first Indian wicket-keeper batsman to score a Test century in Australia on day two of the final Test at Sydney.
Meanwhile, Pant came into the middle when India were already cruising on 329/5 in the first session of Day 2 and went on to share an 89-run stand with Cheteshwar Pujara before following that up with a 200-plus stand with Ravindra Jadeja. The southpaw has been among the runs; however, he grabbed headlines for his verbal duel with Rishabh Pant.
This was only the first instance of him scoring a half-century but he is now the second highest run scorer in the series, overtaking his skipper Virat Kohli who had 282. Rishabh Pant picked up exactly from where Hanuma Vihari left although he was sensible with the bat. With Cheteshwar Pujara on the other end, duo batted through the first session and most of the second session before Pujara fell just seven runs short of his fourth Test double-century.
Ravindra Jadeja then joined the party and duo smashed the balls like none before. Like Pant, Ravindra Jadeja came in and played with the intent of staying in the crease for as long as possible. In doing so, Rishabh Pant broke a 13-year-old record of MS Dhoni as he became the highest run-scorer among Indian wicket-keepers. He overtook MS Dhoni’s decade-old record of 148 runs against Pakistan in 2006.
Virat Kohli decided to declare to have a go at the Aussies in the last 30 minutes following the departure of Jadeja after a well-made 81 runs.

Top innings by @RishabPant777. His talent is undoubted but have enjoyed his composure and the manner in which he has built his innings. Still got there in 137 balls! In a couple of years, he will be India's no 6.

Pant looks such a good player & dependable when he is batting in 3rd gear. Going forward he could try & perfect his 4th gear shots ( lofted shots) or play largely in 3rd gear like this. #UnsolicitedAdvice

After Pujara’s brilliant 193, Rishabh Pant has assured that India put the game firmly out of Australia’s grip. Very impressed by his temperament today and congratulations to him on his 2nd overseas 100, 1 in Eng and now 1 in Aus, only the 2nd wk after Jeff Dujjon to do so pic.twitter.com/uSg60n98nb

Rishabh Pant will return to India and play England Lions in a one-day series for India A, when he could've so easily carried this form into the ODIs v Australia and New Zealand. Even if it meant playing as a specialist batsman.

Rishabh Pant now has the second highest runs for India after Pujara and ahead of Virat in this series. This is why India is winning this series. Contributions from many.
