It was a tough day at the office for Virat Kohli and Co at Sydney. They started as the favourites to win the game but unfortunately, couldn’t quite display the same skills at the crease. In the end, it was all too easy for Australians, as the team displayed top-notch performance in every section of the game.
Initially, Australian batsmen showed exceptional resilience at the crease while the bowlers backed it up beautifully. Especially, Australia’s fast bowling department has been exceptional, who continuously kept the pressure on Indians.
Rohit was outstanding and MS supported him well – Virat Kohli
Speaking in the post-match presentation, the Indian skipper Virat Kohli cited that the target was chase-able. He cited that the wickets of Rayudu and Dhawan lost to good balls while his wicket was sheer unluck.
He went on praising Rohit Sharma for his exceptional knock and reasoned out that the lack of partnerships in the middle was something, which dented India. Kohli also makes his voice on Mahendra Singh Dhoni for his supporting knock.
”We are not very pleased with the way we played. I thought we could have done better with the tempo of the game. It was a 300+ wicket. We thought 280 was chase-able. Rohit was outstanding and MS supported him well. They took the game deep but, MS got out at the wrong time,” Virat Kohli quoted.
”If we would have had one more partnership, we would have been close. Rayudu got a good ball, Shikhar was out on the first ball and I hit it sweetly but straight to the fielder. The defeats like these make you aware of the things you need to improve on,” he added.
Well, as Virat Kohli said, it was the lack of partnerships in the middle, which hurt them dearly. Rohit Sharma has been a class apart but unfortunately, none of the other batsmen really stood tall to make things happen, unless a gritty MS Dhoni’s knock.
