Australia strengthened their grip in the ongoing first Test match as they scalped two wickets in the second session. The hosts were able to scalp the wicket of Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant. Both of the wickets were taken by Australia’s off-spinner Nathan Lyon. Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma played a poor shot as he attempted to go all the way. India added 77 runs in the second session for the loss of two wickets.

Rohit had a lucky escape when debutant Marcus Harris could not hold on to a tough chance at the deep square boundary. Nathan Lyon dangled another carrot in front of Rohit Sharma as he tossed up his next delivery.

However, Rohit didn’t learn from his mistake and tried to go for another big shot. This time Rohit Sharma could only find the fielder. In fact, Rohit had done all the hard work but threw his wicket away after scoring 37 runs.

Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant came to the crease with an aggressive approach. Pant was looking to smack the ball all over the park. However, Pujara was successful in cooling down the youngster as later tried to apply himself at the crease.

Though, Pant’s stay was ended by Nathan Lyon as he was able to produce the outside edge of the southpaw batsman. On the other hand, Cheteshwar Pujara showed the resistance to fight it out in the middle.

Pujara has the company of Ravichandran Ashwin and India has a rebuilding job at their hands. Thus, it has been a disappointing batting display from the Indian team and Australia is in a commanding position.

Brief Scores: India 143-6, Cheteshwar Pujara 46, Josh Hazlewood 2-18.
