Australia vs India 2018, 1st Test: Twitter Reacts to India's Day 1 Performance in Adelaide
Updated - 06 Dec 2018, 02:32 PM
Finally, all the wait is over, and we have got the day one play of the first Test in Adelaide. As usual, team India once again started the overseas Test on a poor note. The collective bowling effort from Australians and the exceptional display of batting by Cheteshwar Pujara (123) are the only highlights of the day one of Australia vs India 2018 1st Test. At the end of Day 1, India scored 250/9.
Earlier in the day, India won the toss and asked the home side to roll their arms first. The visitors left out Hanuma Vihari to their already announced 12-member squad to go with an extra-batsman, Rohit Sharma a chance.
Meanwhile, the visitors got the nightmare of the starts, as KL Rahul and Murali Vijay once again failed to lay a foundation. The difficulties further stretched when Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane walked back in quick succession.
Cheteshwar Pujara showed great resistance:
However, Pat Cummins got the outside edge of Virat Kohli, which was grabbed superbly by Usman Khawaja. In Rahane’s case, Hazlewood got the nick of his flashing willow. However, Rohit Sharma stood in the crease to balance the ship.
Pujara, who was watching all the drama from the other end decided to construct a wall to his name. He made Australian bowlers toil hard to bowl at him and also succeeded in getting runs whenever it is due.
Just when things looked settling in, Rohit Sharma played a reckless shot to see India in trouble once again. Rishabh Pant got a peach of the delivery by Lyon to walk back while Ashwin stood for a while with Pujara.
However, Pat Cummins knocked out Ashwin with a superb delivery thus opening the gates for tail-ender batsmen. Though Ishant looked solid with the old ball, the new ball did the trick for Australia.

This is beginning to look like school days. You wake up early, the Indian top-order fails, it’s time for breakfast and you leave home thinking it’s better to focus on your career than following cricket. #AusvInd

Do you know?
Dravid and Pujara have reached their milestones of 3000 runs, 4000 runs and 5000 runs in Tests in SAME number of innings.
3000 runs in 67 innings
4000 runs in 84 innings
5000 runs in 108 inningsHeights of coincidence! #AusvInd

Remember Pujara (a couple years ago) talking about 'starting a tour well'. Try as he may, it didn't happen for him in SA or England, one reason or another. It has finally happened. Now to kick on. Priceless knock! #AusvInd

Six over covers to Cummins.
Yes, it’s a six over covers to Cummins. ?
Rohit’s treating this, and quite rightly, a white ball game. Fire with fire. #7cricket @Channel7 @1116sen— Aakash Chopra (@cricketaakash) December 6, 2018

What a way to finish the day! Incredible piece of fielding from Pat Cummins, who put some icing on a pretty sweet day 1 cake for the Aussies. #AUSvIND pic.twitter.com/hhwV4TmWBe

Josh Hazlewood has been excellent in that first session. He's harvested the raw materials on offer, finding more swing and seam than his teammates, and it's been used effectively. India have attacked him the least, but he's drawn more false shots than Cummins and Starc. #AUSvIND pic.twitter.com/JLwjLmP8eZ

There it is, a brilliant ton for Cheteshwar Pujara from 231 balls!

Rahul’s efforts now really boils down to intent. Does he want to succeed in Tests? Probably yes, but he needs more game time. But if he is dropped will he go back to Ranji Trophy? No, he will be busy elsewhere like Dhawan. Boils down to lack of planning overall #ausvind

Wonderful wonderful innings from Cheteshwar Pujara. Classy, resilient, tenacious….all these old-world virtues. This was the gold standard of test match batting.
— Harsha Bhogle (@bhogleharsha) December 6, 2018
Pujara wasn’t a part of the build-up narrative….India or Australia. It’s only fair that he dominates the first day of this #AusvInd Test series. Love it.
