Australia vs India 2018, 1st Test: Twitter Slams Rohit Sharma for Poor Shot Selection
Updated - 06 Dec 2018, 12:23 PM
Rohit Sharma’s Test career has been a story of interest. In whites, the elegant batsman has always been in and out of the side. The same can’t be said about his credentials in the limited-overs cricket though. However, he got off to a good start at the Adelaide Oval. At a time when all the batters around him faltered to the pace and bounce, Rohit looked set for a career-reviving knock. Meanwhile, Sharma did the hard work and looked at ease, as the explosive batsman hit three sixes and a couple of boundaries during his stint at the crease.
Rohit Sharma undone by Nathan Lyon
Rohit’s last six did a bit too much to him, as he tried to follow it up with one more. However, Nathan Lyon was taken to the ropes by the Indian batter, but debutante Harris got his hands to it. The batter was lucky to escape, as Harris’ feet were in contact with the ground while he had the cherry in his hands.
Time is running out for Rohit in Tests
However, the very next ball, Rohit did the unthinkable. Seeing the batsman go for his shots, Lyon changed his length a tad shot. Rohit couldn’t cover the ground but still went with the stride. He top-edged the ball while trying to hit the square boundary and ended up placing it at deep square. This time Harris had the last laugh, as India found themselves in hot water.
Meanwhile, Rohit’s Test temperament has always been a matter of doubt. At a stage when India had lost four early wickets, the Mumbai cricketer was supposed to stitch a stand with Cheteshwar Pujara. Instead, the situation got the better off him. He will now have to work out a plan to tackle the volleys of Test cricket.
Moreover, his struggle in Test cricket continues, as the visitors fight it out to stay alive in the Test. Let’s take a look at how Twitter reacted to Rohit’s jaw-dropping approach to Lyon,
Here is the Twitter reaction –
Six and out!

@ImRo45’s dismissal playing a reckless hoick when seemingly well settled shows how mad and bad India’s approach has been today. Positive intent without tact is pointless #IndiavsAus

At this stage of his career, Rohit Sharma must look at every Test match opportunity as a rare privilege. Can’t be squandering opportunities like this. #AUSvIND
