Indian National Cricket team inched closer to victory as they need only wickets in the Boxing Day Test to take a 2-1 lead in the four-match Border-Gavaskar Test series.

At the start of the day, the visitors began positively through Mayank Agarwal and Rishabh Pant. The former was particularly aggressive against Nathan Lyon, hitting him for two sixes in an over. However, just as he was inching towards his second fifty on debut, Pat Cummins had him chopping on and completed a well-deserved five-wicket haul.
The chase got off to a false start with Aaron Finch completely at sea against the incoming delivery, and eventually out nicking to second slip against Jasprit Bumrah. His partner, Marcus Harris, saw off the fast bowlers but Ravindra Jadeja got him just as he had in the first innings, caught at short leg.

Usman Khawaja, looking comfortable against Jadeja with lofts and reverse sweeps, and Shaun Marsh kept India at bay with a 30-run stand before Shami had Khawaja LBW with a ball that kept low and beat his outside edge with some movement. But Shaun Marsh and Travis Head continued their positive cricket, adding 51 in quick time. However, Marsh got one from Bumrah that kept a trifle low to struck on his pads to get out LBW on 44.With two wickets still left, the umpires decided to extend the day’s play by 30 minutes. However, the tailenders defied the Indian National Cricket team bowlers to stretch the day’s play. Pat Cummins, after starring with the ball, now played a crucial hand to take Australia’s score over 250.

With one day to go, India still needs two wickets while Australia will have to score 141 runs to win the Test.
