Australia vs India 2018: Twitter Reacts as India Eye Famous Win in Adelaide
Updated - 09 Dec 2018, 02:17 PM
It was another engaging day of Test match cricket as Australia and India brought their best to the table. Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara gave an ideal start to the visitors as the duo helped India in strengthening their grip in the match. Rahane and Pujara added a pivotal partnership of 87 runs. Thus, India added 109 runs in the first session to put their noses in front.
Meanwhile, Pujara continued his good form going as he scored another fifty. Pujara once again batted with resilience to push the Australians behind the eight-ball as he scored his 20th Test fifty. Subsequently, India’s deputy Ajinkya Rahane got back into form as he scored his 16th Test half-century.
India stamp authority.
Rahane brought some fine eye-catching shots out of the closet. One of them that stands out for the day was a crashing cover drive that found the middle of the bat to race away to the cover boundary.
Consequently, India had their one foot in the door when they were going strong. However, the Indian tail had no interest to wag around as they batted with the long handle. The tourists lost five wickets for only 25 runs to set up a target of 323 runs for the Aussies.
Indian tail disappointed.
There was a big opportunity for the visitors to bat Australia out of the game, however, they were reckless after the Lunch session. Nathan Lyon was the wrecker in chief as the off-spinner took six wickets. Meanwhile, a target of 323 runs is always going to be a daunting task for the hosts.
Subsequently, India could have had a perfect start had Ishant Sharma landed his left-foot behind the crease. It wasn’t to be the case as Aaron Finch was given life after been adjudged LBW.
Shami bowled with fire.
However, Finch didn’t have the rub of the green on his side when he was given out to Ravichandran Ashwin. Surprisingly, Finch decided not to go for the review even after not edging the ball.
Australia’s debutant Marcus Harris was done and dusted when he tried to cut a close delivery and Shami was successful in generating the outside edge. Usman Khawaja was put under pressure by Jasprit Bumrah as he breathed down the southpaw’s neck. Khawaja tried to release the pressure by going for a big shot in the next over against Ravichandran Ashwin but was well caught by Rohit Sharma.
Peter Handscomb and Shaun Marsh, kept the Indian bowlers at bay. The pair had done a fine job in drawing the Ranchi Test match in 2017 and the hosts had huge expectations. However, Handscomb was galloped by Mohammed Shami who bowled a brilliant spell. Although, first innings hero Travis Head and Shaun Marsh took Australia to end of day’s play without any further damage.
Australia ends Day four with 104-4, needing another 219 runs to win with six wickets in hand.
Here is how Twitter Reacted to Day’s four-play:
Loose strokes by Harris and Khwaja and Finch losing presence of mind notwithstanding, Australia have shown some grit and gumption too. But India firmly on top. Super spell by Shami, Ishant and Bumrah choking the runs and no respite from Ashwin

India well in control, may have taken their foot off the pedal a bit towards the end. But an excellent performance overall.

Yet again the bowling unit has been on the money. Sustained pressure. One more tonight and it will be a matter of time tomorrow. @ashwinravi99 has enough to exploit on that pitch.

Firmly India’s day today and all looks set for a memorable India win. Rahane batted beautifully today and the bowlers were excellent to not allow Australia to score freely and pick up 4 wickets #AusvInd
