Former India opening batsman Virender Sehwag has preferred KL Rahul as the Test opener over Murali Vijay in the upcoming four-match series against Australia.

Meanwhile, India will be keen to win their first-ever Test series in the tour to the Down Under. However, they had a poor outing in the last two overseas visits to South Africa and England earlier this year. This will be the weakest Australian side for the last decade as they will be without Steven Smith and David Warner.

After an impressive debut in the Test series against Windies, Prithvi Shaw to play as an opener. However, it will be interesting to see who he pairs with him in the Australia series. With Murali Vijay also back in the squad, India will have to pick between him and KL Rahul to open with Shaw. Sehwag believes India should adopt a more attacking strategy at the top and let Shaw begin with KL Rahul.

Prithvi and Rahul should open. Because the trend Down Under is that whoever is an attacking batsman makes a lot of runs and wins matches for the team,” Virender Sehwag said.

On the bouncy tracks of Australia, Shaw will face his first big Test for India against the likes of Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood, who can terrify the best of batsmen on their day.

India will start their campaign from November 21 with a three-match T20I series. It will be followed by a four-match Test series culminating with the ODI series.
