If there was one Australian bowler that looked like taking a wicket in the opening session of the opening day of Boxing Day Test – it was Pat Cummins. The Aussie pacer who had bent his back bowled a snorter to get the better of Hanuma Vihari. The right-hander could get away from a well-directed bouncer from the Australian paceman. The ball took Vihari’s glove and lofted to Aaron Finch at slips.

Vihari was hit on the helmet by Pat Cummins prior to his dismissal and it must have been playing on his mind. The Andhra batsman who was promoted up to the opening position showed a stoic approach in the first session.

It was an imperative wicket for Australia.

Vihari took 25 balls to get off the mark. He showed a solid technique to keep the Australian bowlers at bay. The right-hander played as many as 66 balls for his eight runs.

In fact, Hanuma Vihari had the rub of the green on his side as Nathan Lyon decided not to go for the review. The ball was hitting the stumps and Vihari had a second life. However, India’s greenhorn opener could not make the most of the opportunity.

On the other hand, Mayank Agarwal became the 295th Test player of India. The right-hander who has scored a truckload of runs in the domestic circuit got off to a confident start. The Karnataka batsman was able to hit the straps in his maiden innings as he showed the right technique.

However, Agarwal first boundary didn’t come in a convincing manner as he chased an outside off-stump delivery and edged it over the gully. Though, Agarwal ticked the right boxes after that and played all the bowlers confidently.
