Former India skipper Kapil Dev has made his prediction for the much-anticipated Border-Gavaskar series. India and Australia will resume their Test rivalry on Thursday (December 17) with the historic day-night Test at the Adelaide Oval. It will be the first-ever day-night Test between the two teams.

Australia are looking to reclaim the prestigious trophy after losing the last two series including one at home. India, on the other hand, are eyeing a record third consecutive win in the Border-Gavaskar Series as well as a second Test series triumph Down Under.

And as both the teams are gearing up to lock horns against each other, Kapil Dev has stated that the hosts have the edge in the pink-ball Test. Kapil Dev reasoned that Australia have played more such matches than India, apart from the fact that they are playing at home.

“Definitely Australia have the edge. They are playing in their backyard. If India were playing a pink ball Test in India, I would say 80 per cent our chances. But Australia have played so many (pink ball) Tests and they understand the conditions better under the floodlights,” Kapil Dev told PTI.

Australia have played seven day-night Tests so far and have won all of them including four in Adelaide. India, on the other hand, have played just one pink-ball Test so far which was against Bangladesh last year.

Kapil Dev’s advice for Indian bowlers:

Kapil Dev has also advised the highly-rated Indian pace attack to bowl to their strength and not get carried away with the bouncy wickets. While India will be without their senior pacer Ishant Sharma, they boast the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav, Mohammed Siraj and Navdeep Saini.

“Our fast bowlers are not that used to bowling on Australian pitches. Sometimes they may get carried away when they see a little bit of bounce and start bowling short. It’s very important to understand their pace and back their strengths,” Kapil Dev said.

“We may have a very good pace bowling attack at this stage, but they (Australians) know the conditions better than our fast bowlers,” he added.
