Australia has named two new vice-captains in Travis Head and Pat Cummins for the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka. The host’s deputy Josh Hazlewood will miss the series as he is currently injured. Furthermore, Mitchell Marsh is also not included in the Test squad. Australia had lost the four-match series against India by 2-1 and they would look to turn the tables in the series against Sri Lanka.
Meanwhile, Travis Head and Pat Cummins were consistent performers in the series against India. Head scored 237 runs in the four Test matches and he was the second highest Australian run-scorer in the series. Furthermore, he scored two fifties in the recently concluded series.
Australia will like to turn the tables.
“The Board of Cricket Australia has endorsed the National Selection Panel’s recommendation for Travis Head and Patrick Cummins to be appointed co-vice captains for the two Test matches against Sri Lanka,” said selector Trevor Hohns.
On the other hand, Pat Cummins was the most impressive Australian player against India. Not only the fiery fast bowler did the job with the ball but also did a fine job with the bat. He came up with invaluable contributions while batting in the lower order.
Pat Cummins scalped 14 wickets, which were the second most by an Australian bowler behind Nathan Lyon. Moreover, the right-hander impressed with the bat as he scored 163 runs in seven innings and showed the compact technique.
Meanwhile, the first Test match between Australia and Sri Lanka will take place at the Gabba from January 25. Australia will like to turn the tables against the Island country.
Here is Australia’s 14-man squad for the two-match series:
Tim Paine(c), Joe Burns, Pat Cummins (VC), Marcus Harris, Travis Head (VC), Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon, Will Pucovski, Matt Renshaw, Mitchell Starc, Peter Siddle, Jhye Richardson, Kurtis Patterson
