Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to bat first in the BAN vs SL 1st Test. While the openers could not score many runs, one down Kusal Mendis hit 54 while middle-order batter Angelo Mathews slammed a spectacular knock of 199 runs. Dinesh Chandimal later added 66 runs to take Sri Lanka to 397 all-out in the 1st innings.

Bangladesh came up with a better batting show than Sri Lanka in the 1st innings. With dual centuries by Tamim Iqbal (133) and Mushfiqur Rahim (105), Bangladesh set up a total of 465-10 on the board, taking a lead of 68 runs. For Sri Lanka, Asitha Fernando and Kasun Rajitha were outstanding bowlers with 3 and 4 wickets respectively.

In the 2nd innings, opener Dimuth Karunaratne started well with a 52-run knock. Later, players like Kusal Mendis (48), Dhananjaya de Silva (33), Dinesh Chandimal (39*), and Niroshan Dickwella (61*) also played good knocks for the team. Reaching 260-6 at the stumps of the final day, Sri Lanka managed to drive the Test to a draw.
