BAN vs ZIM 2018: Tamim Iqbal Breaks Sanath Jayasuriya's Record

Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal, on Tuesday (January 23), broke Sanath Jayasuriya’s record for most ODI runs at a single ground. The left-handed batsman achieved the feat during the game against Zimbabwe at the Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka in the ongoing ODI tri-series also featuring Sri Lanka.
Jayasuriya, who represented Sri Lanka in 445 ODIs in a career that spanned over a decade, scored 2,514 runs at R.Premadasa Stadium in Colombo which was the most by any player at a venue in the 50-over format before Tamim broke it.
Jayasuriya had scored the runs in 71 matches with the help of four centuries and 19 half-centuries. Tamim went past his tally after he scored runs before being dismissed by Graeme Cremer.

The Bangladesh star has now taken his tally to 2549 in 74 matches at the Shere Bangla National Stadium. Tamim has scored five centuries and 16 half-centuries at the venue.
Meanwhile, the highest ranked Indian in the list of players with most ODI runs at a single venue is the former opener, Sachin Tendulkar. The batting legend, currently twelfth in the list, has scored 1778 runs in 42 games at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Sharjah.
