Bangladesh batsman Saif Hassan and team’s new strength and conditioning coach Nick Lee have been tested positive for Covid-19, their cricket board confirmed in a statement. The tests were conducted on Monday. Following the results, Saif Hassan and Nick Lee will be kept under isolation.
Hassan and Lee will tested again in due course. Members of the Bangladesh national team have been undergoing individual training across BCB facilites since before Eid-ul-Azha, according to local media reports.
“We had decided that we will pause even if there were any signs of imminent danger. Quite a few people are showing symptoms so we will suspend activities for a few days,” BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury had told The Daily Star regarding the suspension of individual practice after training was paused.
“Our consultant for Covid-19 is reviewing Lee’s case to determine whether it is a new or previous infection before advising on the management plan,” BCB’s Sports Physician Dr Debashis Chowdhury said.
Individual training of the players came to a halt from Friday after several members of the support staff exhibited coronavirus-like symptoms. The individual sessions at SBNCS will resume from September 9 (Wednesday) with the players who have tested negative, the Daily Star report mentioned.
Bangaldesh will play their first international series following the outbreak of coronavirus and BCB’s plan is to keep the players safe for the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka and that is why group training has not begun yet. The players are expected to begin group training once they move to Sri Lanka.
