Batsmen With All Centuries in Winning Cause in ODIs (Min Five Centuries)

The biggest cricketing extravaganza – ICC World Cup 2019 is only a few days away and the cricket lovers and waiting eagerly for the marquee event. The upcoming competition is likely to see a lot of runs scored with England offering flat wickets in recent times. The batsmen will look to make a merry out of the batting friendly wickets and help their side lift the biggest ODI trophy.

Meanwhile, over the years since the inception of ODI cricket, we have witnessed many centuries being hit. However, it is the ones which have ended in the winning cause which have mattered. Among all, there are only a handful of cricketers who have scored all their centuries which have helped their side notch a victory.

On the context, let us take a look at the list of batsmen with all centuries ending up in winning cause in one-day internationals (min five centuries):

Paul Collingwood – 5

Paul Collingwood has served England for a long time and was one of the most excellent all-rounders during his time. He has won England many matches with both bat and middle and was also a terrific fielder.

The former cricketer holds a unique record of hitting all the centuries in his ODI career which ended on a winning note. Collingwood’s all five ODI centuries helped England win those matches. Currently, the former cricketer is working with the England team in the capacity of a fielding coach. He recently donned the English jersey in a warm-up game when two players sustained injuries.

The 43-year-old cricketer has played 197 ODI scoring 5-92 runs at an average of just over 35.

Kamran Akmal – 5

The 37-year-old wicket-keeper batsman from Pakistan has had a stop-start international career. While he was a good opening batter, Kamran Akmal lacked excellent wicket-keeping skills.

He represented Pakistan in 157 matches over a span of 15 years scoring 3236 runs at an average of 26.09. Akmal has five international centuries to name, and interesting all of them ended on a winning cause. He last played for Pakistan in 2017 while he was last seen in the Pakistan Super League earlier this year.

Saleem Malik – 5

An attacking middle-order batsman with a characteristic high backlift, Saleem Malik was the first batsman who got on top of legendary leg-spinner, Shane Warne. Notably, at the age of 18, Malik hit a hundred on his Test debut, becoming the youngest batsman to do so.

Malik, who made his debut in 1982 was also a part of the 1992 World Cup-winning squad. During his career which spanned for 17 years, Malik has registered five hundred all of which have ended in a winning note.

Meanwhile, Saleem Malik became the first ever cricket to get a lifetime ban in 2000 after three Australian cricketers accused him of offering them bribes to under-perform. Almost after ten years, a Lahore court overturned the ban.

Phil Simmons was a utility all-rounder who represented Windies during the 1990s era. Although known for his most economical spell, Simmons was more than a handy batsman.

During his ODI career, Simmons has scored five centuries; all of those helping his side register a victory. The cricketer from the Caribbean Island has represented his country in 143 ODIs scoring 3675 runs and picking 83 wickets before announcing his retirement in 1999.

Simmons is currently the head coach of Afghanistan and will play a pivotal during their ICC World Cup 2019 campaign.

The former Australian all-rounder was a genuine all-rounder who has served his country for years. Brutally aggressive with the bat, powerfully agile on the field and deceptively dangerous with the ball, Andrew Symonds was the ultimate limited-overs package.

Symonds has scored six ODI centuries playing 198 games for Australia and surprisingly all of them ended on a winning note. He is among the only eight batsmen to achieve this feat in ODI cricket. Symonds, who was a part of the 2003 and 2007 World Cup-winning squad, last played an ODI in 2009 against Pakistan. Interestingly, the all-rounder also made his debut against Pakistan in 1998.

Jason Roy – 9

Jason Royal is one of the important stakeholders in the recent transition of the England Cricket Team since their ouster from the group stages of the 2015 ICC World Cup. He has provided scintillating starts opening the batting and forging an outstanding partnership with Jonny Bairstow.

Since his debut in May 2015, Roy has now struck nine centuries, and all of them have resulted in a win for his side. Besides, the South African-born has three 150+ scores to his name and is currently one of the most devastating openers in the limited overs format.

Sir Viv Richards – 11

Sir Viv Richards is one of the best batters in ODI cricket and can hit the ball miles. He was the epitome of attacking batting and took Windies cricket to greater heights.

Sir Richards has represented the team from the Caribbean in 187 ODIs over a span of 16 years During that period the legendary batsman struck 11 centuries, and interesting all of them ended in a winning cause. Thus, he finds himself in the second spot in the list of batsmen whose ODI centuries have helped his side notch a victory.

Adam Gilchrist is one of the best wicket-keeper batsmen to play the game. His wicket-keeping skills and hitting ability at the top took him to a different level althogether. His match-winning knock in the 2003 ICC World Cup final against India will forever be in the heart of the cricket lovers.

Gilchrist, who was part of Australia’s World  Cup-winning squad in 2003 and 2007 has represented the Aussies in 287 ODIs scoring 16 centuries. Interestingly, all his hundred have come in the winning cause, which is a record. No other batsmen have scored more ODI centuries where all of them have helped their side win the match.
