BCCI alters rights auction amid interest from digital players

Indian Cricket is undoubtedly the superpower of world cricket regarding finance and the rights for digital broadcasting is very high. Hence the BCCI has decided to postpone their next set of broadcasting rights and the digital media rights in all international and domestic matches. There has been strong interest in the digital packages on offer as per reports in the Hindu.

They have also reported that the new auction process that the new re-auction will now be held on 3rd April instead of the proposed date on March 27. It was announced last month, but it has been delayed due to the prevailing circumstances. It is being learnt that BCCI has been receiving several queries from the bidders to make them understand the whole process 1st April.

The current broadcaster for India’s home matches Star India has a contract of (€492m/$602m) for broadcast, online and mobile rights to Indian cricket. Star covers all the international and domestic matches held in India by BCCI. It includes the full Ranji Trophy and the Irani Trophy.

At the moment three packages have been on offer. Global television rights plus rest of the world digital rights, digital rights for the Indian subcontinent and a consolidated global package. The submission deadline is on March 27. Meanwhile, the online auction in all likelihood will begin later in the day.
