BCCI Mulls Doing Away With Games on December 31 and January 1 in Domestic Circuit

While cricketers across the country and the world were busy celebrating the new year’s eve and new year’s day, the players from Delhi and Vidarbha were busy fighting it out on the field for the Ranji Trophy.
However, from next year onwards, all the players in the domestic circuit are set to enjoy these two days away from the field, as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is likely to do away with any domestic fixture on these two days.
CK Khanna, the BCCI acting president, said there should be no games on these two days so that the players can enjoy the time with their dear ones.
“This needs to be addressed. The future tours and programmes committee will have to revisit this schedule. There shouldn’t be matches on these two days from the next season,” Khanna told The Times of India.
“The domestic players stay away from the families for much of the season. They need to be with their dear ones on such special days,” he added.

Well, the Vidarbha players would not have complained much about remaining away from their family during the festive times, as they thrashed Delhi by nine wickets on the new year’s day to seal their maiden Ranji Trophy title.
Meanwhile, the BCCI is taking all possible measures to ensure the players remain in a good mental state. The board has made it sure the matches do not coincide with Diwali and Holi, and one of the reasons for scrapping the neutral venue format was that it made players spend too much time away from their families.
Khanna further said the board is contemplating rewarding curators for preparing good pitches for the country’s premier first-class cricket. Pitches have always been a matter of debate, and to avoid such scenarios, the BCCI has deployed neutral curators for every match.
“This is the reason why we thought of bringing in neutral curators. The curators deserve credit, and it will be seen that they are duly rewarded,” Khanna said.
