Virender Sehwag has predicted that Ben Stokes would go as the highest gainer in the IPL auction this year, again.

Sehwag was interacting with his fans on Facebook when he answered to a question asked by a fan regarding the player who would top in the IPL auction this time,

I think it would be an all-rounder who would go at the highest price. Ben Stokes or Dwayne Bravo or may be Chris lynn or may be Jaydev Unadkat or Yuzvendra Chahal. But I hink Stokes might go at the highest price. He can match his previous number this time again. It all depends as if there is a clash of egos between two franchises, then the price of a player automatically goes up like we saw in case of Yuvraj Singh and Dinesh Karthik,” he said.

Stokes, the England all-rounder, was purchased by Rising Pune Supergiant at a price of Rs 14 .5 Crore in IPL auction to emerge out as the costliest player. He repaid the faith shown on him and contributed to the franchise in both the departments.

He scored 316 runs and scalped 12 wickets to bag the Man of the Tournament award. He is expected to be one of the top buys in the auction but may not emerge out as a top buy at the auction.

Gautam Gambhir, Yuvraj Singh, and Harbhajan Singh are expected to break the record this time around.

Gambhir has already shown his prowess in the league and has led Kolkata Knight Riders to two title wins in the past. Last year too, KKR qualified for the Qualifiers. Coming to Yuvraj, he is also one of best T20 players. Just like past, franchises might look to spend a huge amount on him to add experience in their side.

The last man on the list is Harbhajan Singh, who was associated with Mumbai Indians for past 10 years. His former franchise could have retained him but they were allowed to retain just three players. Hence, he wasn’t retained. Mumbai Indians may use Right to Match Card on the veteran player.

The IPL auction for the upcoming season will be held on January 27 and 28. A total of 1122 players have registered for the league. A total of 36 players have put their name in the top bracket of Rs 2 Crore.
