The Bristol Crown Court set forth the date of Ben Stokes’ trial on August 6. The date overlaps the schedule for the England vs India Lords’ Test match. As a result, England’s premier all-rounder is all set to miss out on the eagerly anticipated fixture.
It was only recently that Stokes got back into the scheme of things for England against New Zealand during the ODI series. The 26-year old is part of the Test squad for the upcoming series against England.
Stokes was found guilty of assault on an army veteran outside a pub in Bristol. Ben Stokes along with his accomplice Ryan Ali and Ryan Hale were arrested following the infamous brawl incident.
As a result, Stokes had to miss out on the large chunk of international action including the Ashes series which the English lost 4-0.
Earlier in the morning, Stokes, now in New Zealand, appeared in court by video link this morning to confirm his identity. He also issued his not-guilty plea, as his trial preparation hearing got underway in Bristol, according to Espncricinfo
Ben Stokes stands accused of affray, alongside two other men, Ryan Ali, 28, and Ryan Hale, 26. The trio appeared at Bristol Magistrates’ Court last month, where the clerk read out the charges and all three defendants indicated not guilty pleas.
