Bhuvneshwar Kumar has evolved as the premier fast bowler of the Indian fast bowling unit. His ability to swing the bowl both ways has added muscle to the Indian bowling. He has over the years remained consistent for the national team. However, alike every fast bowler, injury has been a bit of concern for the Meerut player.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar, 30, started his journey in cricket while playing for Uttar Pradesh in the Ranji trophy. He has picked up 218 wickets in the FC cricket at an average of 26.53. He has bowled at an economy rate of 2.68 and picked up 12 five-wicket hauls for his state team.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar: My numbers were only highlighted after dismissing Sachin Tendulkar
Bhuvneshwar Kumar was 18, when he was breathing fire, and rattled the Mumbai top order while playing for his state. Sachin Tendulkar was one his wickets who was sent packing for a duck. The fast bowler said his wicket was a big turning point in his life as his numbers started to be highlighted since then.
“It was a very big turning point for me,” Bhuvneshwar said. “I had already taken 30-35 wickets overall that season but all of my past performances and numbers were only highlighted after I dismissed Paaji (Sachin). Once I dismissed him, people started taking note of my stats from previous seasons and realised that I have performed well in the past as well.
“So that particular wicket brought my previous performances to the fore and people realised that because he has done well in the past, he might do so in the future as well. I have always maintained that the wicket was a turning point in my career, which made people take notice of me,” he added.
Bhuvneshwar had returned figures of 5/78 in that match. He has picked up 63 wickets in Tests and 132 in ODIs.
