International cricket has seen many spellbinding bowlers. These bowlers have graced the game with their ability to swing the ball or deceive the batsmen with turn. But eventually they have also conceded a lot of runs for their national team.

Oh boy! Glenn McGrath would come steaming in and hit the timber for fun. He dismissed Sachin Tendulkar in the 2003 World Cup final as many television sets in India were switched off and hopes were dashed.

McGrath, who represented Australia in over 350 matches, conceded 20862 runs at an economy rate of 3.50.

Stuart Broad might go down as one of the finest fast bowlers on the international circuit. But he has also conceded a lot of runs. He has the bowling average of 28.44 and conceded runs at an average of 3.50.

Broad, who is still an active player for England, has played 315 matches and conceded 20682 runs from 35361 deliveries.

Wasim Akram was a nightmare for batsmen of any stature during his heydays. His pace and movement could single-handedly help Pakistan win a lot of matches and create history.

Akram picked up a massive 916 wickets in his career across formats. He played 460 matches between 1984 to 2003 and conceded 21591 runs at an economy rate of 3.17.

7. Chaminda Vaas

Chaminda Vaas, the new ball bowler for Sri Lanka, wrecked havoc with his express pace from 1994 to 2009. He featured in 439 matches for the national team and is the second fast bowler after James Anderson to have conceded most runs on the international circuit.

Bowling at an economy of 3.30, Vaas conceded 21643 runs from 39345 delivers. His recorded the best bowling figures of eight for 19 in his career.

6. Daniel Vettori

Daniel Vettori, the bespectacled spinner, retired from international cricket in 2015. But his contribution to the game has been immense.

From 1997 to 2015, he played 442 matches (ICC/New Zealand), bowled 43661 deliveries and conceded 22863 runs at an economy rate of 3.14.

5. Harbhajan Singh

Harbhajan Singh, the veteran India off-spinner, was a threat to the Australian bowlers on his hey days. He is currently out-of-favour from the national team and yet to announce his retirement.

But till date, he played 367 matches (India/Asia), bowling 41671 deliveries, and conceding 23143 runs at an average of 3.33

4. James Anderson

James Anderson, England’s record wicket-taker in Tests, is fourth in the list of most runs conceded by a bowler and first among the active players list. He has also conceded the most runs among fast bowlers in the all-time list.

Anderson has played 364 matches for England, bowled 42785 deliveries, and conceded 24083 runs at an economy rate of 3.37. He also holds the best bowling figures of seven for forty two.

3. Shane Warne

Shane Warne could make batsmen of any stature his bunny. The creator of the ‘ball of the century’ Warne was a joy to watch. His run-up with his tongue out would put the thinking caps on any batsmen on how to tackle the delivery.

Warne conceded 25536 runs his career (Australia/ICC). He bowled 51347 deliveries and picked up 1001 deliveries, bowling at an economy rate of 2.98

2. Anil Kumble

Anil Kumble was the finest leg-spinner to have donned the Indian jersey. His stint as Team India coach was short but he will remain a legend of the game as far as his fast bowling is concerned.

Kumble played 403 matches (Asia/India) in his career, bowled 55346 deliveries, and conceded 28767 runs in his career. He picked up 956 wickets and bowled at an average of 3.11 in this course.

The Sri Lankan spin legend was one of the most economical bowler on the international circuit. He played 495 matches (Asia/ICC/SL) in his career, conceding 30803 runs from the 63132 deliveries he pitched. Additionally, he also scalped 1347 wickets in his career, with the best bowling figures of nine for 51.
