Kieron Pollard Will Get Best Out Of West Indies At T20 World Cup: Brian Lara

Legendary cricketer Brian Lara in a recent interview said that the current West Indies team has the potential to become one of the top sides in the world. They won the ICC T20 World Cup in 2016, and this year, their title will be on the line, when Australia play hosts to the T20 World Cup in October 2020.
Lara, also added that the Windies will benefit from the experience of limited-overs skipper Kieron Pollard at the T20 World Cup later this year.
Pollard recently became the first international cricketer to play 500 T20 matches when he took to the field against Sri Lanka in the first Twenty20 on 4th March.

The skipper of the West Indies legends at Road Safety World Series, Lara, lavished praise on Pollard for achieving the milestone of playing 500 T20 matches while adding that the all-rounder’s experience will be key for his team in the future.

“It’s a tremendous achievement, first of all, to play so much T20 games, it’s unbelievable,” Lara told ESPNcricinfo.
“Kieron Pollard has been around for quite some time. I remember his first game was 2007 for the World Cup. Obviously, he’s played a lot of franchise cricket around the world and I think the experience he has gained under different captains…he has captained teams in franchise cricket around the world, he brings a lot of experience,” he added.

The 50-year-old, who is widely acknowledged as one of the greatest players ever. He further added that Pollard’s exploits in the shortest format will be handy for the West Indies, in the upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia.
“What he also has is cohesiveness in the bunch of players that he is in charge of. I think everyone respects him, which is important and he has a very good head on his shoulder. [He’s a] fair guy as well so I expect him to do very well for West Indies and I expect everyone to rally [around him],” stated Lara.
He further added, “The most important thing is a captain is as good as his team, and if he has support from his team – and a very talented team at that, especially in the T20 version of the game – I think he’s going to get the best out of them.”
