MS Dhoni batted at No.4 for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL 2020 clash against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) but seemingly struggled to score runs. MS Dhoni scored 11 runs off 12 balls before he was cleaned up by Varun Chakravarthy. CSK eventually went on to lose the match by 1o runs.
Dhoni has experimented with the batting line-up for CSK. While Faf du Plessis has been heavily relied on in the earlier matches, Shane Watson has also shown spark as he returned back to form. However, the middle-order woes still continue to mount for MS Dhoni and party in the IPL 2020.
MS Dhoni is great finisher but things are not going right: Brian Lara
West Indies legend Brian Lara, a part of the broadcasters panel for IPL 2020, said that Dhoni’s inability to finish the games. He also added that players like Dwayne Bravo have not got enough opportunity to bat and thus something looks wrong. Lara also mentioned that Dhoni is a great finisher but things are not clicking for him.
“It’s a bit puzzling (Dhoni inability to finish). You feel that he has created that position where he can be flexible with himself but I think he needs to maybe look at some other players,” Brian Lara told Star Sports during a post-match analysis show.
“They have played a couple of games where Dwayne Bravo, an all-rounder, hasn’t had an opportunity to bat. Scoring 58 runs in 10 overs but only losing 10 wickets, something is wrong.
“He is a great finisher, no doubt about that. But things are not going right for him and I believe, some of the other players, look at Jadeja how he batted today, he came in when their chances were very slim. So, something he will have to work on, have a steadier stuff.
“They were cruising after 10 overs. You got 90-odd on board. It was unbelievable,” he added.
All the success had made him one of the most influential person on the cricketing circuit but he was not the same when he was first introduced to the national team. Besides that, MS Dhoni has also been the go-to man for his teammates whenever he was on the field. But currently his dip in form is a major concern.
