One of the legends of cricket, Brian ‘Charles’ Lara has never backed out from expressing his feelings throughout his career. The Marathon man of cricket has done wonders for the game and his country. The World record holder for the most runs in an innings, Lara opened up about his counterparts and said the great Pakistan fast bowler Wasim Akram made him feel stupid.
Lara, who was known for his sublime timing and placement to find the gaps in the field, said that he feared to face the Sultan of Swing. Both Akram and Brian Lara were a part of the same playing era and played against each other on numerous occasions.
Lara grew up when the West Indian team was at its best. He has seen the West Indians dominate every other team in the world. West Indies did not lose a Test series starting from 1980’s.
Akram, on the other hand, is regarded as the greatest left-arm fast bowler ever to have played the game of cricket. Akram could swing the ball in both the directions and was one of the most unpredictable bowler’s in the world.
As quoted by Crictracker Lara said:
“Wasim Akram. He always made me feel stupid.”
In a previous interview with Dawn, Lara elaborated:
“Oh, he was fast and furious. He bowled over and round the wicket, swung the ball both ways, a master of reverse swing and moreover, at times, he cut the ball prodigiously.”
“His bouncers were fast and slow too and very aggressive when in full flow and very competitive as well. I never felt in control when facing Wasim because he was always very unpredictable.”
