Former Australian bowling legend Glenn McGrath is currently in India to promote tourism Australia in the subcontinent. Recently, he sat down for a tête-à-tête with the Times of India (ToI) and discussed upon various issues such as picking up whom out of Sachin Tendulkar or Brian Lara was tougher to bowl to, and various other topics.

In his illustrious career, McGrath played as an opponent against two of the most worshipped players in the history of cricket, Lara and Tendulkar. He revealed that Lara never changed his approach and was a fearless batsman, which is why the West Indies batsman was slightly tougher to bowl to than Sachin.

McGrath also named Jasprit Bumrah in his top three bowlers’ list of the current era after John Wright calls latter an ‘intelligent’ person.

Glenn McGrath talks about Sachin Tendulkar, Brian Lara; names his top three bowlers in the world right now:

When quizzed by TOI if Lara was indeed a tougher opponent than Sachin, McGrath said that his fearless approach made the West Indian a formidable batsman.

The veteran said, “That was Brian. He never changed his game. I may have got him out 15 times, but he also scored big hundreds and double hundreds against us when both me and Warnie were playing together for Australia. When it was his day, he could do absolutely anything. Sachin was equally as good, but there was something about Brian where he could just keep going and he was slightly harder to bowl to than Sachin. He was more fearless.”

McGrath was later asked to name the top three bowlers in the world right now and he picked a lot of names, not just three.

“All Aussies. Pat Cummins, Josh Hazelwood and Mitchell Starc. (Laughter). But seriously, Pat Cummins, Jasprit Bumrah and Kagiso Rabada. I like Neil Wagner too,” he revealed.

The 50-year-old McGrath was also asked if there is more pressure on cricketers in India as compared to Australia, but he said that there are more rewards as well.

“I suppose there is more pressure on the cricketers over here. If Australia loses, there’s not too much fuss back home or maybe just a little bit. Whereas over here, it’s, you know, when you’ve got 1.3 or 1.4 billion people. It’s a little bit more pressure than 25 million people. Yes, there’s more pressure on Indian cricketers. But the rewards are a lot more than anyone else.”
