Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) prominent leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal revealed an interesting story from his first encounter with former India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni during his debut series in Zimbabwe.

Meanwhile, Chahal had an average stint with Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Royal Challengers during the recently-concluded eleventh edition of the lucrative league.

However, he returned with 12 wickets for the Virat Kohli-led team. With his eyes set on the upcoming England tour, Chahal is preparing under the tutelage of former India leg-spinner Narendra Hirwani.

However, Chahal took out to feature on the popular chat show- ‘Breakfast With Champions’ where he recalled some memorable memories.

Recalling the day of his selection to Gaurav Kapur, Chahal noted that he didn’t believe his eyes. Interestingly, he looked at the official website (Board of Control for Cricket in India) for half an hour.

The 27-year-old Haryana-based Chahal also added the feeling of wearing the jersey is something which will be with him.

I had a good IPL season and never knew that BCCI will announce the squad. When the names came up on the BCCI website, I could’nt believe my eyes and kept looking it for half an hour. Seeing my name I cried a lot. The day I wore the jersey, I can’t even describe in words,” Indian Express quotes Chahal as saying.

Meeting Dhoni for the first time:

Chahal, meanwhile, received his One-Day International cap from Dhoni. He also revealed the instances when he first met him and admitted that he wasn’t able to talk properly.

The leg-spinner Chahal also recalled when Dhoni called him over and asked him to call him Mahi or Dhoni and not ‘sir’.

I received the ODI cap from MS Dhoni. He is a legend and the first time I met him I was not even able to talk in front of him. When I met him for the first time in Zimbabwe I used called him Mahi Sir. After a while, he called me over and said, ‘Mahi, Dhoni, Mahendra Singh Dhoni or Bhai… Call me whatever you want but not sir’,” Chahal reminisced.

In conclusion, Yuzvendra Chahal also lauded his current national team skipper Kohli, who has been a source of inspiration for him.
