Suspended Australian opening batsman Cameron Bancroft will get an opportunity in the county stint when he turns up for County Club Durham in 2019. He is currently serving a nine-month ban from Cricket Australia for his involvement in the infamous ball-tampering saga which took place at Cape Town in March earlier this year. He will be playing for the north-east county as their overseas player in the coming year.

Bancroft was slated to play for Somerset this season. However, his contract was suspended due to his involvement in the ball-tampering saga in South Africa.

The opening batsman will be available for selection in all forms of cricket for Durham next year.

“I am excited to join Durham for the 2019 county season,” Bancroft said.

“Having played at the Emirates Riverside in 2017, I know what a great place it is to play cricket. With the Ashes and One-day International World Cup being played in the United Kingdom in 2019,” he added.

“Well, it will be a massive summer of cricket. I’m grateful for the opportunity and can’t wait to get over and make an impact with Durham,” he added.

Cameron Bancroft impressed one and all:

He has been an impressive batsman for the Australian team in the limited opportunities he has got for his nation so far.

However, there is no doubt about the fact it was a stupid act which he carried out. As he was the scapegoat, he got only nine months suspension. It was Bancroft who was caught on camera trying to applying glue on the sandpaper on the match ball.

Captain Steven Smith accepted the folly and stated that they had hatched a plan to tamper with the ball. David Warner was also handed a one year ban by CA.

As per reports, Warner emerged as the mastermind behind the plan. Warner and Smith will walk into the side directly after completing the suspension.
