Indian National Cricket team’s marathon man Cheteshwar Pujara was recently in the news after few fans called him a cheater during the Ranji Trophy semifinal clash against Karnataka at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium at Bengaluru. Despite all the odds, he kept himself calm to steer his side to the final with a match-winning knock of 131 runs.
Meanwhile, Cheteshwar Pujara resumed his state duties returning from the back of an outstanding summer in Australia. The Saurashtra batsman scored 521 runs in the four games including three match-winning centuries to help India register their maiden Test series win on Australian soil. He defied every odds to bat for long hours and guide his side post good totals on the board. Moreover, Pujara also bagged the man of the series award for his excellent show with the bat.
Pujara booed by Karnataka fans
However, soon after landing in the country, he represented Saurashtra in the quarterfinal and semifinal clash. In both the matches, he chipped in useful contributions to seal his side’s victory. But controversy triggered during the semifinal game when Cheteshwar Pujara gloved one off Ronit Morey’s delivery in the first innings. The on-field ruled it as not out, and Pujara didn’t move an inch. He went onto score 45 runs in that innings. A handful of fans present at the stadium booed him as well while he was returning to the dressing room.
The second incident came at a more crucial stage in the second innings when Pujara was batting on 34. In a Vinay Kumar over, the batsman edged it to the keeper, but the same umpire did not hear or see any connection with the bat. The seamer made a colossal appeal and was joined by his teammates, but were unable to convince the umpire. Once again, the replays clearly showed an edge of the bat. Cheteshwar Pujara stitched a 214-run stand for the 4th wicket with Sheldon Jackson as Saurashtra managed to chase down the 279-run target comfortable on the final day of the match with five wickets still in hand.
