It was a scintillating effort by Indian National Cricket Team in the first three ODI games of the 5-match series against New Zealand. They have been pretty clinical in their approach to outsmart Kiwis in every given opportunity to bag the series after almost a decade year. Meanwhile, the all-rounder Mitchell Santner admits that they have been outplayed.

Right from the first ODI, Indians displayed their class in every section of the game. They never gave Kiwis a chance to come near to the victory in the recently concluded three ODI games. Meanwhile, Santner hopes for a good return in the next couple of games.

It’s been a little bit disappointing to lose three games – Mitchell Santner

The all-rounder, who made a comeback after a lengthy layoff failed to deliver the goods. He wasn’t at his best in the three ODI games either with the bat or the ball. Meanwhile, he wants to look into the positives from the loss.

He believes that the loss has exposed the areas that they need to work on before heading into the ICC World Cup 2019. Santner also showered words of praise on Indian team for their brand of cricket in all conditions.

“We have been outplayed in all three games. It’s been a little bit disappointing to lose three games in a row but we are playing a very good side. India has shown just how good they are in all conditions. We have not been good enough but there are signs there that we are getting better. We have got two pretty important games coming up – hopefully, we can win this one here and move onto Wellington with some momentum,” he said.

The execution was the reason behind failure:

Further, the youngster quoted that they have got solid plans in their kitty for the Indian players. But, unfortunately, the execution wasn’t right up there to make things fall in place for the team.

“I think the plans have been pretty solid – maybe the execution’s been off at times. I guess the key for us is to keep taking wickets through the middle, keep being aggressive. They obviously hate getting out – just got to find ways to try and get wickets,” Santner said.

“They are bowling very well at the moment. The slower pace that they bowl is tending to get a little bit more out of the wicket than guys like myself and Ish who bowl a little bit quicker. But that pressure is also being built off the back of the starts we have had (with the bat) – we have always been two down after ten (overs) allowing them to settle into their work,” he noted.

Well, it would be interesting to see how things would pan out for Kiwis in the next couple of games. They have already lost the series but the next two games are as important as any other game from ICC World Cup 2019 point of view.
