West Indies’ swashbuckling batsman Chris Gayle has tested negative for Covid-19 after reports emerged that he was one of the athletes to attend Usain Bolt’s birthday bash in Jamaica. The precautionary steps of testing were taken after the sprint legend took to Twitter and said that he has been tested positive for the Covid-19.
His 34th birthday celebrations also saw Manchester City star Raheem Sterling attending the party. Bayer Leverkusen winger Leon Bailey was also reportedly present in the attendance. Bolt has been staying indoor and self-isolating ever since being tested positive and will continue to quarantine himself.
“Good morning everybody I’m confirmed of COVID-19. I did a test on Saturday. [I’m] trying to be responsible so I’m going to stay in, and stay away from my friends.”
“And also, I am having no symptoms, so I am going to quarantine myself. And will wait and see what is the protocol and how should I go about quarantining myself, from the Ministry of Health,” he added.
Gayle will be next seen in action in the IPL 2020. He has been one of the integral member of the KXIP franchise over the years. In the previous edition of the IPL, he notched up 490 runs in 13 games at an average of 40.83 and a strike rate of 153.60, and is set to continue opening with the new captain KL Rahul.
Meanwhile, after VIVO pulled out as the sponsors for IPL, Dream 11 bagged the deal for Rs.220 crore for four months. IPL will get underway from September 19 with the final being played on November 10. However, the final fixture for the lucrative tournament is still to be announced, with Mumbai Indians set to put their title on defense.
