T20 cricket is the flavour of the season with the ICC scheduling two back to back T20 World Cups. One was recently held in October 2021 in the UAE. The next one will be played in October-November 2022 in Australia. The Aussies won the previous edition of the T20 World Cup and would look to defend their title at home.

Bowlers and especially spinners play a big role in a team’s success in T20 cricket. Over the years, several reputed bowlers have made their mark in T20 cricket. Out of the top five wicket-takers in T20 cricket, four are spinners. This signifies their importance and the role they play for their respective teams. With the IPL 2022 auctions coming up, we take a look at the top five wicket-takers in T20 cricket.

Bowlers With The Most Wickets In T20 Cricket

Dwayne Bravo -558 Wickets, Average -24.35

Bravo is the leading wicket-taker in T20 cricket with 558 wickets to his name. He has also played 515 matches, the most among the top wicket-takers in the format. Bravo has enlisted himself in the mega auction and it will be interesting to see if Chennai Super Kings still have faith in their veteran cricketer.

Imran Tahir- 438 Wickets, Average – 19.49

Tahir is the second-highest wicket-taker in T20 cricket with 438 wickets to his name. He like Bravo is a T20 freelancer having played in various T20 leagues across the globe. He retired from ODI cricket following the ICC 2019 World cup but is still playing his trade in franchise T20 cricket. He too has enrolled his name in the IPL 2022 mega auctions.

Sunil Narine- 425 Wickets, Average- 20.72

The Windies mystery spinner Sunil Narine sits third on the list of all-time wicket-takers in T20 cricket. Narine has fell out of favour in the West Indies national side across formats. He played his last ODI for Windies in 2016 while playing his last T20I game in 2019. He was one of the four players retained by KKR ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction. He is inching closer to 150 wickets for the franchise in the IPL.

Rashid Khan- 420 Wickets, Average -17.38

Rashid is the youngest bowler to get to the 400-club in T20 cricket. He is just 23 and already counted among the greatest of the game. He has played the least number of games to get to that milestone. Rashid is very much the face of Afghanistan cricket and guaranteed inclusion in any World T20 XI.

Shakib Al Hasan- 402 Wickets, Average- 21.12

The former Bangladesh skipper is the latest entrant in the list of bowlers with over 400 T20 wickets. He is topping the list of bowlers with the most T20I (117) wickets in international cricket. He is closely followed by Tim Southee (111) and Lasith Malinga (107)
