Cricketers, just like other public figures, earn a major chunk of their revenue from promoting brands. Cricketers are role models for millions around the world and what they endorse generally vertebrates with their fans.

And, so when it comes to promoting alcoholic beverages, there has been a plethora of them, who due to their religious beliefs or moral ethics, have refused to promote them, even if it means wearing a sponsorless kit.

Here’s a look at cricketers who refused to promote alcohol:

The current Pakistani Test captain, Azhar Ali has been the bedrock of his teams’ batting line-up for a better part of the past decade.

Ali, who has 5919 runs to his name in 78 Tests with the help of 16 hundreds, three double-hundreds and a triple ton, plays for the English county, Somerset.

Somerset’s main sponsor is Tribute Ale, which also happens to be the county’s official beer. But since Ali is a deeply religious person, he dons the Somerset kit without its logo.

Wasim plays for Jamaica Tallawahs in the Caribbean Premier League. The T20 League has one of its sponsors as Appleton Estate, which is a rum manufacturing company. Since Wasim refused to promote the alcoholic brand, he dons the jersey bereft of the logo.

One of the greatest batsman that South Africa has ever produced, Hashim Amla was someone who while batting at his pomp looked like as if was meditating on the crease.

Amla, who is the fastest to score each of the multiples of 1000-7000 ODI runs, is a deeply religious man, and so every time he donned the South African jersey, which for him came without the Castle Lagar- an alcoholic brand logo- he used to pay a fine to the cricket association of the country.
